The functions of Special Employment Exchange for Physically Handicapped persons in addition to selective placement work are as follows as per Part IV of the National Employment Service Manual, 1984.

  1. To render vocational guidance, if necessary with the assistance of the local E.O. (V.G.)

  2. To identify occupations suitable for handicapped persons

  3. To collect information about the size of the problem and the special needs of handicapped persons periodically

  4. To enlist the co-operation of employers in engaging handicapped persons

  5. To establish liaison with other agencies engaged in assisting the handicapped, e.g. training institutions, Vocational Rehabilitation Centers, Voluntary organizations, National Institutes for the handicapped etc. and

  6. To follow-up each placing to ensure that the physically handicapped person concerned is setting down satisfactorily in employment.
